The Onyx Cup of Full Tilt Poker will be a six-tournament series featuring huge buy ins ranging from $100,000 to $300,000. Venues haven't been announced yet but organisers have confirmed that they will include stops in Europe and Asia as well as the USA.
The estimated prize pool for the entire series, which will culminate in a $250,000 Grand Final in Las Vegas, is $30m. The series will also feature a leader board with the person sitting at the top of the ladder after the Las Vegas finale set to walk away with the Onyx Cup Series trophy as well as a brand new luxury sports car. The action gets under way in Las Vegas on 11 May with Full Tilt's pros such as Erik Seidel, John Juanda, Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson all set to play.
The Onyx Cup isn't just open to top pros though. Qualifiers for all of the events will run at Full Tilt Poker.
“It gets my blood pumping. It’s not just about the money, in this event it’s more about playing with the calibre of players that we’re going to be up against,” said Phil Ivey. “there’s going to be a lot of pride that comes along with winning this event.”
